As part of a memorandum between Ukraine's Ministry for Communities and Territories Development and the Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture and with the support of the flagship project “Movement without Barriers”, an initiative team of researchers has developed a pilot AI consultant on accessibility in ChatGPT.
The tool helps to quickly obtain basic answers with references to the DBN, which, among other things, regulate matters of inclusivity and accessibility, as well as advice for a specific space or situation.
The AI consultant does not replace architects and accessibility experts, but it can be a convenient first step to get one's bearings, check a solution or prepare for working with specialists.
“For me, the topic of accessibility is not abstract policy but a personal story. My dad is a veteran with a disability who uses a wheelchair, and every day I see the barriers he faces. That is exactly why the appearance of an AI accessibility consultant is an important step towards spaces in Ukraine becoming truly accessible, and not only ‘on paper’,” — Artem Honcharenko, Barrier-Free ambassador of the Ministry of Education and Science (MON).
This approach is meant to make the process of creating an accessible environment more systematic, consistent and clear for communities, businesses and everyone who works with space.
The AI consultant is continuously supplemented with materials and technical data. It is coordinated by the Veterans Institute of KNUBA and the KNUBA expert working group on accessibility. If questions arise during use, you can write to the email: veterano@knuba.edu.ua.
The materials generated by the AI consultant are advisory in nature. It is recommended to verify the information against the applicable norms and, if necessary, to consult specialists.
